What is the best Ryan Gosling movie? | Movie Brackets
Ryan Gosling might be his generation’s elite movie star but what is his best movie?
@AmandaTheJedi joins Art & Zach to look back at the 30-year on-screen career of Baby Goose, from his emergence as a child star to his mainstream breakthrough in films like The Notebook, as well as his acclaimed turns in films like La La Land and Barbie to his turns in genre movies like Drive and Blade Runner 2049. Does Gosling work best as a silent brooder or a motormouthed jokester? Do we love him most in dramas or action movies? And why did they make t-shirts for The Place Beyond the Pines?

Y'all making fun of a guy being scared at a horror movie is wild.
What I originaly knew Gosling from was Breaker High and Young Hercules xD grew up watching these on french television!
The scene with the hand thing is one shot and they had to do them at just the right time of day. Him learning jazz piano when he doesn't even read music. Watch the other movies or you won't really see his range.
Leaving out "The Believer" is tragic, you really need to see it because he is incredible in it. He was literally the last of 150 to audition. He is as they say, riveting, but expect to cry. In a different interview with the director he says, "We knew within a few minutes we had a real actor that no one else knew about. It won at Sundance. His audition: ua-cam.com/video/AyWPzzevZo4/v-deo.html
Watch the speeches from the Kirk Douglas Award given to Gosling this year. The montage from Kirk Douglas Award: Can you imagine him doing the scenes with the little girl in "First Man" when he had daughters who were 1 and 3 at the time. ua-cam.com/video/cmXn9twwBeg/v-deo.html
Another bad matching of "The Fall Guy" and "Crazy Stupid Love". The bedroom scene is my favorite because they show so much love and chemistry. "THE FALL GUY" is a much better movie. The outtakes of Steve Carrel and Julianne Moore trying the "Dirty Dancing" lift are really funny. Gosling hated the picking up women part. She had a panic attack with the lift scene and Ryan says she was like catching a rabid raccoon. She had fallen in gymnastics from the parallel bars when she was 7 and broke both arms.
Love the monologue with he and Emily Blunt and I love watching him laugh. If I could wake up to him laughing it would be great. There is one on the Graham Norton show and one interview from "Blade Runner". Half Nelson vs La La Land where did that come from. 2 Oscar nominee performances together. Lars is better, mainly because Ryan chose how to do Lars and compares it to "The Velveteen Rabbit" Instead of the rabbit becoming real because of love, Lars becomes real. The treatment of actual mental disabilities is wonderful. Drive would be better without all the blood flying everywhere.
Drive is his best film.
You have no idea about his range if you have not watched "Slaughter Rule" and the "United States of Leland". They are both heartbreaking and he got good reviews in both. ua-cam.com/video/MUimgLkHK_Y/v-deo.html, United States of Leland trailer: ua-cam.com/video/cmXn9twwBeg/v-deo.html
Sad to see Only god forgives didn’t make the cut. My favorite gosling film and one of my favs of all time
Horrible film. If it was just a little straighter it would have been good
The inconsistencies in picking criteria is what I love best about these bracket episodes
Consistent inconsistency is our guarantee
Love the bracket episodes. Keep em coming!
I knew I recognized the little boy in ‘Greener Grass’. He was also in H.P. Lovecrafts ‘Color out of Space’ starring Nicolas Cage from 2019, I think. If you seriously want to be disturbed, watch that movie. I find it the kind of movie that will aid in insomnia, meaning: it will keep you awake when you should be sleeping. I bought it through UA-cam. Not just rent, bought it.
Why did you do a podcast about the Tonys when you've seen so few shows? And get your facts right. Michael Stuhlbarg does NOT play a young Vladimir Putin in ''Patriots.'' And it's ''An Enemy OF the People,'' not ''FOR the People.'' Etc.
We cover all the major awards shows because we find them interesting. We’re primarily a film & TV podcast but we have an interest and appreciation for theater. Broadway isn’t that accessible for everyone but we like to dip our toes in from time to time. Also, try hosting a weekly 3 hour podcast and not having an occasional flub!
This is where our subscription fees are going ?!
Why are studios allowed to own theatres now?
HOTD is 10 times better than GOT at its peak.
how bout stop letting TV shows control your emotions. You CAN watch something else if you don’t like it. watching something and then bitching and moaning about it is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. watch something else.
That’s what you’re doing here goofy
If you look at the business model, there is a reason why Alamo went bankrupt and AMC / Regal are in financial trouble.
What was the business model that happened for it to get bad?
Thank you for this. The end of the last season just felt so lazy. I see so many people applauding the recent season because conservatives are finally realizing the show is making fun on them. The show was obviously a parody in the early seasons. There was the squeaky clean family values company full of horrible people, the closeted religious hero who spoke out against the lifestyle, then the monetization of Queen Maeve’s sexuality-with the added bonus of her meals being vegan as the company doubles down on pretending to care. When they started giving Homelander Trump lines/mannerisms it went from the show winking at you from across the room to elbowing you in the ribs.
Danm I like it alot BEAUTIFUL JUST BEAUTIFUL IN JESUS NAME AMEN
The einbinder special was garbage. Her delivery is so condescending and her material is corny.
It is a bit too on the nose. Almost like Law & Order doing the ripped from the headlines.
Why tf did the clone guy want to show his dick so badly like bruh
The show is definitely pushing the limits, which is what shows should do. Bringing real world issues into the show isn't a problem either. Metaphors are good where metaphors are needed, but they're not a requirement for good TV. And the sex thing is hilarious and real. People have kinks and the show doesn't shy away from that. The show is fantastic and is evolving. To the people that enjoy season 1 over the rest, keep in mind that you're never going to like everything all the time. So appreciate what you got and allow others to appreciate what they took from places you didn't.
The thing is, the limit is set by homelander charavter, as he grows more unchained, the stakes and plot do too
They are dragging the story too much.
Rewatching season 1 felt very slow and dragged out a lot of the time, I didn’t enjoy it as much in the rewatch. But looking forward to season 2 and Raenys is definitely a badass I want to see more of.
Fuck no We need more shit like this
Woke crap 💩 🤮🤮🤮
For me, this show seemed to fall off after the second season. They really seemed to lose the nuance, and began to push superficial slapstick and pointless countermorality. Even though many people seemed to like it, the sex party episode in season 3 just seemed desperate to me.
i stopped watching when i saw the divergence with the comics. i dont like modern hollywood. so when the show diverged from the comics i stopped watching it was that plain and simple im a fan of the boys, not of hollywood. nothing in my life is worse by not having the boys. its just another money laundering operation in hollywood. i always saw the parallel between the homelander simps and maga simps irl it was funny, im a conservative. but what stopped me from watching was not that. it was the divergence from the comics.
the comics are terrible the show is infinitely better than the comics
Bruh have you actually read the comics, it’s already different (thankfully) episode 1. The comics are ass
Guys stop implying that someone is speaking from their rear end 😅
They haven't lost the plot, you were just too dumb to notice until now.
Are you guys watching Interview with a Vampire?
No but I keep hearing that I should be!
I think it's one of the best shows on TV right now. It'll be on Netflix soon for binging
There is no risk anymore. In prior seasons there was always leverage or something they had to keep themselves from being killed instantly by supes. The reasons now just feels so unmotivated like homelander at the end of season 3 was suppose to have finally lost it and nothing stops him but here he is coming face to face with enemies and just chatting it up and walking off. Or not popping someones head after an attempted murder of your child being shot in the head or acid thrown on you and simple walking away. Its uninspired and directionless.
well homelander has his son to worry about and still has other things to contend with like winning support and love.
@@OccupiedMuffins he also had that need last season and lasers someone infront of his kid so thats not good enough.
my guess is that Homelander finds it funny that Butcher is dying slowly and doesn't want to give him a 'glorious' death or anything. Neumann also did find Hughie to be sort of a friend and just doesn't care enough about killing people who can't seem to do any form of harm to her. I'd also add that she's afraid that if she were to kill one of the boys, the rest would out her immediately as a supe, destroying her political aspirations
SHit house movie, sHit house actor
Keep crying kid
ok, I see you!
Worked as a PA on this!
Some of those disguises were up there with The Americans.
It's Synecdoche, New York for kids!
No Johnny Cash? Country really got snubbed to not even have 1 single album at all. I personally think it should've been 1 album per artist. This is the greatest work they have ever done and should only be the one album.
Inter-Audio podcast?! Ay love to see it!! Even more reason why you guys are the goats
where do you watch this movie?!?!?!

@@IntercutPod my bad..
No worries! Thanks for checking out the video.
World's Fair and now this. I'm pretty sure the director is into ASMR big time. One of us! One of us!
I think there is something to be said about Owen repeatedly breaking the fourth wall and talking to the audience, like he doesn't believe the TV show was anything more than a TV show... and yet he knows he's in a movie?
I think it's a multi-purpose device. One, it's adopting the trope of talking to the camera a lot of older shows did. In essence, it's homage. Second, it's another layer of unreality, of blurring the lines, that works to support the narrative of dysphoria the film is centered on.
trying to hide media proof of one’s lesbianism by putting it inside a copy of… d.e.b.s. is kinda counterproductive 😅
saw it for the first time at SXSW and seen it 6 more times since then. i already loved World's Fair, but this movie REALLY blew me away. life changing shit. never seen anything like it and i'm so happy that the rest of the world gets to experience it now. it's been so heartwarming seeing how it has touched so many people over the past month since its theatrical release. everyone needs to see this movie.
They really got their token queer to talk about the queer movie smh. cancelled.
I definitely picked up on the trans message within the film but like you said there are a lot of different queer experiences people can connect to in the film outside of that as well. (This is not at all meant to take away from that part of the movie because I am really glad there’s such a great and successful movie centered around the trans experience) I know for me what I connected to most was Owen and Maddie’s talk on the bleachers about whether or not Owen liked girls or boys. That comment from Owen about knowing there’s nothing there when talking about romance and attraction, but being too afraid to look and knowing that his parents know something is wrong with him hit harder than any other scene from a movie I’ve watched this year. I read it very much as an expression of asexuality and/or aromanticism and as someone who identifies as asexual myself that was the first time I had ever seen that aspect of myself portrayed on screen and the struggles that come with it as well. I don’t know if there’s a movie that better portrays that all consuming, suffocating stagnation of feeling so out of place- knowing you’re out of place compared to those around you- and in response forcing yourself to fit what other people expect of you than I Saw the TV Glow. Definitely the movie that will stick with me the longest out of any movie I’ve seen so far this year.
The comments people left saying it has "mixed politics" about trans identity honestly makes me question what they were even talking about. And from other trans/queer people, no less. Personally, as a trans woman 1yr into her transition, I couldn't relate more to Owen/Isabelle's journey.
And by that I mean stuff like someone claiming that "The film portrayed self-h*rm as cathartic". Which... no. Absolutely not.
A film about hot button topics like this will always draw criticism. If a trans or queer person didn't vibe with the film, I can see it. I don't agree with the more negative criticisms I've seen, but considering I'm not queer, I don't feel it's my place to engage in their interpretation and challenge it. At least not when the film is so fresh. But I've seen far more trans and queer people loving the film and analyzing it positively than negatively. But I do think there is a mindset in that community that does not like, at ALL, any kind of queer story that isn't lighter, happier in tone.
